How To Seek the Face of God

Welcome back to Salt and light Commission! Spring time is here and with every new Spring season, it’s a chance to see new life. New growth. Old things are passed away for new things to come into focus. Goals are reestablished and even new commitments. Today we will be talking about how to get closer with God, by seeking His face.

Seeking God’s face is a great way to get closer with God. Now we can’t actually see God’s face while we are alive, the scripture says so,

Exodus 33:20, “He [God] said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.’”

but the scripture also says we need to seek God’s face.  So how do we do that, when we can’t see God? Is God sending us on a wild goose chase? Not at all! There are several ways to find God’s face…and it’s all in the scriptures.  Let’s take a look at the 5 ways to seek God’s face.

To seek God’s face we need to think about the attributes of a face. So the first way is to seek God’s EYES.

“FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE TOWARD THE RIGHTEOUS…” 1 Peter 3:12

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”
Psalms 32:8

“Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who hope for His loving kindness,”
Psalms 33:13

So it says here we need to fear (honor) God to have His eyes on us.  When His eye is on us He guides us on the way we should go. Like a GPS…God Positioning System.

The Second part of the face we should be seeking of God is His EARS.

“…HIS EARS ATTEND TO THEIR PRAYER…”
1 Peter 3:12

So if God’s ears are tune to our prayers and we want to seek God’s face through His ears, we need to pray.  Praying is just a fancy way to say, talking with God. You can pray to God anywhere and anytime. Just remember that He deserves to be honored, so where ever or however you pray to God do it respectfully.

The Third part of God’s face we need to seek is the NOSE of God.

The scriptures says it like this in Genesis 2:7 “Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”

“The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Job 33:4

“…And the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.”
Job 32:8

We see here when God breathes in your direction, it brings life to dead things. His breath has resurrection power.  It’s like spring time.  A blast from God’s powerful nostrils brings new life and understanding. So seek the nose of God by asking God for understanding of His word, when you read the bible.  God is sure to breathe in your direction, and when you gain the understanding in a deeper way, you gain a new spiritual life within you.

The Fourth part of God’s face to seek is the MOUTH or VOICE of God.

“…The voice of the LORD is powerful, The voice of the LORD is majestic. The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars…”
Psalms 29

The scripture also say that the Lord speaks in a still small voice.

God can speak in multiple ways.  We shouldn’t put the way God will respond in a box. You should expect anything. To hear God’s voice, one of the best ways is to expect to hear from Him after you pray.   Prayer shouldn’t be a one sided conversation. You should make your requests known to God and wait quietly for Him to respond.  Have that expectant heart to hear from Him.  But remember God speaks on His timetable not yours.

I found it helpful after I pray, to sit quietly for an hour or two to think on God and see if He has a word for me.  More often than not, I have heard the small voice instructing me on what to do. Waiting on God to speak is key to hearing the voice of God.  Being alone away from the noise of life is important too.  No technology, just you and God. When God speaks to you it is often instructing you to act. Often that act will be uncomfortable, but well worth it.

The Fifth and final part of God’s face, is to seek His LIPS. Seek the Lips of God.

When you seek the Lips of God, you seek His smile. His smile is His favor on your life. When God smiles at you, He is pleased with you. When Jesus was baptized the scripture says that God was well pleased. That’s the favor of God.

Genesis 6:8 “But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.”

Psalm 90:17 “Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!”

Psalm 84:11 “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

There are tons of scriptures in the bible referring to the favor of God. They all have the same thing in common. Blessings flow from God’s Favor. If we are seeking God’s smile we must be pleasing to God. The best way to be pleasing to God is to follow His laws and live as Jesus taught us. Jesus is the example of how we should live our lives.

So to conclude, it is very possible to seek the face of God, but seeking the attributes of His face. His Eyes, His Ears, His Nose, His Mouth, and His Lips. When we do, we can’t physically see His face, but we can get as close as we can on this side of Heaven.

How to seek the face of God? Be the salt and light of this world as Jesus taught and you will be able to speak to God face-to-face like Moses did.

“The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.”
Exodus 33:11

The bible says we are the friend of God and He is our friend, so seeking the face of our friend is not a wild goose chase.
